Math anxiety , the fear of mathematics, is extremely stressful to individuals and can be devastating to their careers. In addition, the lack of basic mathematics skills is a drain on their organization's productivity .It is a limiting factor in the growth and development of both the individuals and the organization for which they work. Imagine trying to play in a symphony orchestra if you couldn't read the music!
Math anxiety is understood and can be dealt with successfully. REA provides solutions to the math anxiety problems that rob both human and dollar resources. REA deals with each person on an individual basis with high confidentiality at no charge.
How can this service be free? While the information gained from the Mathematics Diagnostic Evaluation is invaluable to the people who have completed the evaluation, it also has a high value to the REA people who plan, develop and teach our professional development sessions. The better understanding we have of our clientele, the better job we can do to provide training at the appropriate level. Many individuals would not want to ask their supervisor for funding or could not get funding for this evaluation. We at REA want to encourage you to take advantage of this confidential evaluation. The information received from the evaluation is between the individual and the evaluator. No information is provided to anyone else. The complete evaluation is returned to the individual.
Those people who do not have adequate math skills or who have math anxiety are NOT stupid! They simply have not had the opportunity to develop their math skills in a non- threatening atmosphere.
All of us have potential skills that we have not developed and yet we cannot afford to allow potential skills to lie dormant in an area that is demanded in our work. In an engineering or construction organization, mathematics is a skill required in almost all activities.

We do not need your supervisor's approval or anything else! If you are concerned about your mathematics skills or your fear of math, request this diagnostic evaluation.
The diagnostic is returned to the individual. There are no scores and no grades. Each situation on the evaluation is reviewed. The evaluator discusses where the individual made an error and the nature of the error. Each person receives detailed advice and guidance as to how they might best proceed to improve their skills and capabilities in mathematics. People who have completed the diagnostic are welcome to call and discuss their situation with the REA staff member who evaluated their efforts.
REA's Educational Services group is primarily involved in engineering, computer and engineering management oriented training programs. Participants will be most successful in those programs when they can concentrate on the technical topics and not become bogged down in the mathematics. The math diagnostic is a way we can help people prepare for the topics that will use their math skills.
